Dalat Trekking Tour 2 Days - Best Dalat Hiking Trails

Best Dalat hiking trails

Dalat is often called the “city of eternal spring”, and I felt it as soon as I arrived. Located in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, the city enjoys a cool climate all year round, which is ideal for hiking. What to do in Dalat ? Beyond its romantic atmosphere and misty landscapes, Dalat truly attracts travelers thanks to its spectacular trekking routes, passing through pine forests, rolling hills, and deep jungle. That is exactly why I chose to experience a Dalat trekking tour 2 days, to fully immerse myself in nature and discover a wilder side of the region.

I. How to prepare well for Dalat trekking tour 2 days

1. When is the best time to go hiking in Dalat ?

What is the best time to visit Dalat ? You can go trekking in Dalat all year round, as the landscapes change with the seasons and always offer something special. In November and December, it is the season of the famous pink grass, which colors the hills at sunrise. From January to June, it is an ideal period to observe many bird species and enjoy lively, green nature. Dalat is therefore beautiful in every season. Do not worry if you are not traveling at the “perfect” time: take your backpack and go. Sometimes, trips without too many plans bring the best surprises.

2. Essentials for a successful trek

Over time, my backpack has become my best ally. In Dalat, the weather can change quickly, especially at higher altitudes. Here is the essential equipment for a Dalat trekking tour 2 days:

  • Waterproof trekking shoes: essential to avoid humidity and blisters.

  • Windproof and waterproof jacket: rain can come without warning.

  • Layered clothing: a breathable T-shirt, a light fleece, and comfortable pants.

  • Headlamp: useful at the campsite or for early morning starts.

  • At least a 2-liter water bottle: even in cool weather, effort can be tiring.

  • Sunscreen and mosquito repellent: the sun and insects are very present.

3. Do you need a guide to hike in Dalat ?

For some routes, such as Lang Biang Peak or Bidoup Nui Ba National Park, having a local guide is mandatory. Far from being a limitation, it is a real advantage. My guide, from the K’ho ethnic group, showed me medicinal plants, local legends, and secret spots in the mountains. With a guide, the trek also becomes a cultural experience.

II. The best hiking trails in Dalat

One of Dalat’s biggest advantages is the variety of its trails. Here is a selection of the most popular routes for 1- to 2-day hikes. 1. Pinhatt Peak (Samson)

Pinhatt Peak is perfect for a first hiking experience in Dalat. The climb is gradual and well marked. In half a day, you reach an altitude of about 1,600 meters. The most magical moment is sunrise, when Tuyen Lam Lake appears under a sea of clouds. It is an easy trek, but very rewarding.

2. Lang Biang Peak

  • Duration: 3 to 4 hours round trip
  • Recommended for: intermediate hikers, people in good physical condition

Rising to 2,167 meters, Lang Biang Peak is one of the most famous natural sites in Dalat. The hike is relatively short, but the climb is quite steep, especially near the end, which can be slippery after rain. The trail is clear and safe. A guide is not required: you can hike alone or with friends. Access is regulated and only allowed between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Once at the top, the view over the highlands is wide and impressive, perfect for a break and photos.

III. My 2-day Trek itinerary on the Ta Nang – Phan Dung Trail

1. Day 1 : from pine forests to the Hills of Ta Nang

We started the adventure very early, at the edge of Ta Nang forest, after a breakfast prepared by local people. This Dalat trekking tour 2 days begins around 7 a.m. After safety instructions and a good warm-up, we took our first steps through pine forests and crossed a few cool streams, in the still gentle air of the Lam Dong Highlands.

By mid-morning, the landscape suddenly opened up to vast grassy hills stretching as far as the eye could see. This is where the real challenges began: famous slopes such as Ngo slope, Long Mit slope, and Dau slope, long and demanding, especially under the sun. At noon, we took a simple but precious lunch break in the heart of nature, before regaining our energy.

In the afternoon, we reached the symbolic point of the trek: the Ta Nang – Phan Dung summit, at about 1,100 meters above sea level, marked by the border stone between Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces. The view over the rolling hills was spectacular. At the end of the day, around 4:30 p.m., we set up camp on a ridge with a beautiful view. The evening was spent around a warm barbecue, under a starry sky and in the silence of the mountains.

2. Day 2 : sunrise and crossing the Khop Forest

We woke up around 5:30 a.m. to admire the sunrise from the campsite. A hot coffee in the morning mist made the moment even more special. After breakfast, we packed up carefully, making sure to leave no trace, and then started the descent.

Waking up at an altitude of 1,100 meters

The scenery gradually changed: from grassy hills, we entered the Khop forest, a rare ecosystem where trees lose their leaves during the dry season. Around midday, we took a break near a clear stream to have lunch, rest our legs, and cool our feet. In the afternoon, the trail led us through bamboo forests, reed fields, and sometimes the gentle scent of wild orchids.

Vietnam’s only Khop forest (and one of the few in the world), an ideal place to observe endemic bird species

The most fun moment at the end of the route was the “forest Grab” experience: motorbikes driven by local people on the final paths, a welcome help after two days of effort. Around 4:30 p.m., we finished the trek and shared a final meal at a local restaurant, still carried by the strong emotions of this legendary crossing.

The “forest Grab” experience

This Dalat trekking tour 2 days is not just a hike; it is a true discovery of nature and local life. You pass through forests, hills, and small villages, far from the noise and stress of big cities. This type of experience helps you relax, slow down, and better understand Vietnamese culture. Well prepared and accompanied by local guides, the trek remains accessible to everyone and very enjoyable. Dalat, a gem in any Vietnam itinerary 3 weeks, is renowned for its cool climate and breathtaking landscapes. During January and February, the city transforms with vibrant mai anh dao, Vietnam’s cherry blossoms, painting areas like Xuan Huong Lake and Tuyen Lam Lake in stunning pink hues.
