We started our romantic getaway with two days in Da Nang, between sea, mountains, and well-being as part of our 6 days in Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue journey. II. Detailed 6-day itinerary in Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue

1. Day 1: Arrival in Da Nang – Relaxation by the sea

We arrived in Da Nang after a brief flight from Hanoi, under a perfectly clear blue sky. We were warmly greeted by our private driver and driven directly to our beach side lodging. To make the most of this moment of relaxation, we scheduled a couples massage at Herbal Spa – a real oasis of well-being in town ! For dinner, we went to the Madame Lan Restaurant on the bank of Han River, and relished some of the specialities in Da Nang. Next we made our way to the famous Dragon Bridge, spectacularly lit, with it’s rainbow lights reflecting in the water. Magic reached its zenith as the dragon breathed fire and water to the astonishment of the on-looking crowd. A very romantic evening to top off our first day of sweet.

2. Day 2: Excursion to Ba Na Hills – A fairytale world

Following our first easy day in Da Nang, we were up for going full steam ahead with our next stop to Ba Na Hills, on day 2 of our 6-day itinerary in Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue. In the early morning we drove to the station from the hotel, a ride of about 45 minutes. We became instantly enamoured by the ride in the cable car: the sight of green forests and wafting clouds was awe-inspiring. The Golden Bridge supported by giant stone hands took our breath away as we stopped countless times for photos from every possible angle of the panoramic view. We then walked around charming French Village, which looked frozen in time with its cobblestoned streets, medieval-style building and quaint coffee shops where we sat for a hot beverage and enjoyed the ambiance. It was a fairytale day of discoveries and unforgettable moments.

We had a hearty international buffet at Arapang Restaurant for lunch to power up for our afternoon. Then it was off to enjoy the Fantasy Park shots and games. We had indoor roller coasters, interactive game rooms and even a mini climbing course to bring out our inner child in us. Then it was time to make our way back to Da Nang, have a wonderful traditional meal in the city and then unwind at the hotel ready for the next part of our journey. It was another one of the best days from our 6-day trip to Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue, and after coffee at the Han River, sparkling with a thousand glittering lights, it faded peacefully.

3. Day 3: Hoi An – The city of lanterns

So after two fabulous days in Da Nang and Ba Na Hills, we went to Hoi An, the city of lanterns, which is about a 45-minute journey. If you’re wondering what makes this city so special, the answer reveals itself as soon as you arrive. Our third day of our 6-day trip to Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue, we rode a taxi to drop our bags off in Old Yellow House Hoi An – a beautiful and quaint inn – and beelined it to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Town. Walking the winding cobbled streets with ancient houses painted in soft hues of yellow felt like a step into the past. Highlights including the Japanese Covered Bridge and the Tan Ky House stunned us with their architecture and stories. We had lunch as a reward for ourselves – we feasted on the renowned Cao Lau, a hearty, and flavorful Hoi An speciality – truly the best of stopping and enjoying the ambiance in this fairy-tale town.

In the afternoon, we took part in a lantern-making workshop together which was great fun and a nice introduction to that beautiful part of the Hoi Ain culture. Then we strolled slowly along the Hoai River, watching boats cruise up and down and ambling through the darling little lanes of shops, cafés and colorful lanterns; it was a fairy-tale town, it was enchanted. Under a sky lit by lanterns, we cruised the river in the evening, drifting gently along. We also released our own floating lanterns on the water, and made a wish as they took flight into the night. 4. Day 4: Cham Island excursion and Hoi An cultural discoveries

After a day of exploring in the Old Town of Hoi An, we felt it was time for a little fresh air on day four of our Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue itinerary. In the morning we set out to Cham Island, a little unspoiled ruined paradise away off the Hoi An coast. Just a 22 km boat ride away from Hoi An, (towards Cham Island) we arrived to what I can only describe as a paradise on earth, where time didn’t exist and natural beauty was king. The water was clear blue and the beach was really quiet. We had a great time snorkeling to see the corals and fish before a yummy seafood lunch on the island. Just a pure moment of relaxation and nature.

After lunch once more on the mainland we headed to Tra Que Vegetable Village and Thanh Ha Pottery Village. Walking through green vegetable plantations, and observing local artisans doing their work, gave us a better understanding of the region’s traditional life. In the evening we walked the lantern lit streets of the old town in Hoi An and tasted local street food, like Mi Quang and Banh Mi Phuong. And we ended the day walking around the lively Hoi An market – a bit of shopping for souvenirs and homemade gifts to bring back home – a another good memory in our 6-day trip to Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue.

5. Day 5: Journey to Hue and Imperial City discoveries

My husband and I had left the romantic lantern town of Hoi An in the early morning to make our way to Hue, part of our fantastic 6-day trip to Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue. A stunning 3-hour (around 130 km) drive over the acclaimed Hai Van Pass where an undulating road took us to where we could see beautiful, undulating green mountains and glimmering coastlines as we traversed the stunning pass across this scenic path. En route, we stopped at the Khai Dinh Tomb, both architectural showpieces of the imperial era that offered a glance at Vietnam’s royal history. Reaching lunch, we found our way to Madam Thu Restaurant, a small inviting restaurant redolent with the smell of Hue cuisine of times past. The flavors were delicate, they were fragrant, they were the right amount of spiciness, they were perfectly balanced, and they made me fall in love with the city – one bite at a time.

By afternoon, we were settling into the Hue Homestay Riverside, a friendly guesthouse on the Perfume River. The remainder of the day was spent wandering through the ruins of Imperial Citadel of Hue, entering old doors that made one feel like there were secrets to be whispered about its past. We marveled at the elaborate masonry that lined Noon Gate (Khiem Cung Mon) and strolled through the vast courtyards of the Forbidden Purple City (Tu Cam Thanh), the private home of the ruling family, making it amusing to try and imagine what life would have been like here hundreds of years ago. That evening we rode a delightful dragon-boat down the Perfume River as the sun went down. Boats glided gently on the water, twinkling with floating lanterns, and floating around them, the musicians filled the air with the folk songs of Hue in on-board live concerts. It was a really magic evening and let us return there in our minds, glimpsing a beautiful side of the city. It was the perfect way to end a first day in Hue.

6. Day 6: Farewell to Hue and the end of our journey

The following day, we left on one more visit to Hue before bidding farewell to the imperial city. Slowing down to ponder how amazing it was to travel to Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue in 6 days, we visited the famous Thien Mu Pagoda sitting gracefully on a hill overlooking the Perfume River. Its seven-story tower and quiet gardens gave off a tranquil feeling, the kind of place conducive to relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty around us. We also stopped by a few local shops to pick up souvenirs — sesame candy, and the cute conical “poem hats” for which Hue is known.

We came back to our homestay after light lunch in town to check out and transfer to Hue Airport for our flight back to Hanoi. We made our way to the ship, feeling a bit wistful about the amazing views we had seen and the wonderful things we had done on this 6-day trip to Da Nang Ba Na Hills Hoi An Hue. Everything, from relaxing to adventure, to deep cultural experiences – all felt like precious. We came home with full hearts already talking about the time when we could return to Vietnam to create more unforgettable memories together.
