2 Week Itinerary In Thailand Laos - Reflection Of Mr Martin

2 week itinerary in Thailand Laos

My‎ name‎ is Philippe Martin,‎ and I just completed‎ a trip I had‎ dreamed about for a‎ long time. For two weeks,‎ I traveled‎ across‎‎ Thailand and‎ Laos with‎ my partner.‎ This Thailand‎ Laos itinerary 14 days was‎ a lovely‎‎ adventure‎‎ filled with‎‎ nature, culture,‎ and local‎ encounters. I‎ decided to‎ write this article‎ to share‎‎ our Thailand‎‎ Laos 2 week itinerary‎ with you.‎ Maybe it will help‎ you plan your own‎ 2‎ week‎ trip to‎‎ Thailand and Laos. I‎ tried to describe‎‎ each step‎ simply, just the‎ way I experienced‎ it. If you're‎ thinking about‎ visiting‎ Thailand and‎ Laos in 2 weeks, this story‎ might give‎ you easy‎ and practical‎ ideas. It’s not a‎ professional‎ guide, just my‎ honest‎ feedback‎ after a trip‎ that taught‎ me‎ a‎ lot.

I. Why I chose to travel to Thailand and Laos

I picked‎ a Thailand Laos combined‎ itinerary because‎ I really wanted‎ to explore‎ another part‎ of the world. I‎ had seen‎ photos of temples‎ in Thailand and‎ peaceful landscapes‎ in Laos. That‎ inspired me to‎ create a simple yet‎ diverse Thailand‎ Laos 2 week‎ itinerary. I had ‎ two weeks‎ off, so a‎ Thailand Laos itinerary 14 days felt just‎ right. I also‎ read that‎ traveling‎ between the‎ two countries‎ was easy,‎ so‎ I decided‎ to combine‎ both.
I planned‎ everything‎ on my‎ own, with a‎ little help‎ from Autour‎ Asia.‎ They‎ helped me‎ fill in‎ ideas to visit‎ Thailand‎ and Laos in‎ 2 weeks‎ without‎ rushing.‎ This was‎ our first‎ time in‎ Asia. I’m‎ writing this‎ to help‎ you if‎ you’re‎ thinking of‎ taking a similar‎ 2 week trip to‎ Thailand and‎ Laos. I hope‎ my experience‎ makes it‎ easier‎ for you to‎ prepare your‎ own‎ journey.

II. My Thailand Laos itinerary 14 days

1. Day 1–2:‎ Chiang Rai (Thailand)

I‎ started my‎ Thailand Laos‎ 2 week itinerary‎ with two‎ ways in‎ Chiang Rai. I‎ chose this city‎ for its famous‎ temples. On‎ the first day,‎‎ I rented a‎‎ scooter and‎ visited the‎ White‎ Temple, the‎ Blue Temple,‎ and a huge‎ Buddha statue.‎

The White‎ Temple is‎ very white‎ with lots of‎ tiny‎ details. The Blue‎ Temple is‎‎ completely‎ blue,‎ even‎ inside. I took‎ my time‎ exploring‎ them. In the‎ evening,‎ I had dinner‎ by the‎ river and‎ grabbed a‎ drink at a‎ cozy local‎ bar.

On the second‎ day, I hired‎ a car with a‎ driver to explore‎ further. I visited the‎ Choui Fong‎ Tea Plantation‎ and had iced tea‎ while looking‎ over the green‎ hills. Then, I‎ went to Mae‎ Fah‎ Luang Garden‎ on Doi Tung.‎ I really‎ enjoyed the‎ flowers‎ and mountain‎ views.

I stayed at‎ Laluna Hotel‎ & Resort in‎ Chiang Rai.‎‎ It was quiet,‎‎ with tropical‎ garden‎ bungalows. There‎ was a pool,‎ but I didn’t‎ use it. Breakfast‎ was served‎ in‎ a shady‎ corner of the‎ garden. For dinner,‎ I recommend‎ trying khao soi. I‎ had it every night‎ during my Thailand Laos‎ combined itinerary.

2. Day 3–6: Houayxay & the Gibbon Experience

After‎ two days‎ in Chiang‎ Rai, I‎ continued‎ my 2‎ week trip to‎ Thailand and‎ Laos by‎ crossing the border‎ into Laos.‎ I passed‎ through‎ Chiang Khong‎ and over‎ the Friendship‎ Bridge to‎ reach Houayxay.‎ The whole‎ trip took‎ around four hours,‎ including a tuk-tuk‎ ride to the‎ bus station‎ and a local‎ bus to the‎ border. I had‎ to go through‎ immigration‎ twice.‎ For the‎ Laos visa, I‎ ended‎ up using‎ three‎ different‎ currencies‎ because‎ my US‎ dollars‎ weren’t new‎ enough. That‎ was a‎ bit stressful,‎ but it all‎ worked‎ out.

In Houayxay,‎ I stayed‎ one night‎ at Sabaydee‎ Guesthouse. It’s‎ simple,‎ but the‎ view of‎ the Mekong‎ from my‎ third-floor room‎ was lovely.‎ There’s no‎ elevator, so I‎ carried my‎ bags up myself.‎ I had a‎ basic noodle‎ soup for dinner‎ at a‎ small restaurant‎ near the‎ market.‎ It wasn’t fancy,‎ but it was‎ tasty.
Zip lining in Houayxay was a thrilling highlight of our Thailand Laos 2 week itinerary through jungle and treetops.
The next‎ morning,‎ I started the‎ Gibbon‎ Experience,‎ one of the‎‎ highlights of‎‎ my Thailand‎‎ Laos itinerary 14 days. We‎ left early‎ by truck to‎ head into‎ the forest. Then‎‎ we hiked‎ through‎ the jungle,‎‎ rode zip‎ lines‎ between‎ trees, and‎‎ slept in a‎ treehouse. I‎ picked the‎ 3-day,‎ 2-night‎ option. The‎ view‎ from‎ the‎‎ treehouse‎ was stunning.‎ I didn’t‎ see any‎ gibbons, but I‎ heard some sounds‎ in the forest‎ at‎ night.

This part‎ of my‎ Thailand‎ Laos 2 week‎ itinerary‎ was truly different.‎ It felt‎ good to‎‎ disconnect, without a‎‎ phone‎ or‎ modern‎ comforts.‎ If you‎‎ plan to visit‎‎ Thailand‎ and Laos‎‎ in‎ 2 weeks, I‎ really think‎ this‎ jungle‎ experience‎‎ is worth‎‎ including.

3. Days 7–8: Mekong River Cruise

During my‎ Thailand‎ Laos‎ 2 week‎ itinerary, I‎ really‎ wanted to‎ try a cruise‎ on the Mekong‎ River. I booked‎ with Shompoo‎ Cruise, a‎ small company‎ offering a‎ peaceful journey‎ between‎ Houayxay and Luang‎ Prabang. On‎ the morning‎ of Day‎ 7, a driver‎ picked me up‎ from my‎ guesthouse. The boat‎ was long‎ and‎ wooden, with‎ pink cushions.‎ There was tea,‎ coffee, and a‎ nice lunch‎ buffet. I liked‎ the food,‎ even though‎ it was a bit‎ different‎ from what‎ I usually‎ eat.

In the‎ afternoon, we‎ stopped at‎ a Khmu‎ village. Our‎ guide‎ shared‎ stories about‎ their culture -‎ it was‎ interesting.‎ That night, we‎ stayed in Pakbeng‎ at a small‎ bungalow at‎ Mekong Riverside Lodge.‎ I liked‎ the river‎ view from‎ the balcony,‎ even though‎ it was a bit‎ hot‎ without‎ air conditioning.

On Day‎ 8, we‎ visited the Pak Ou‎ Caves filled‎ with Buddha statues.‎ Then, we‎ stopped by‎ the whisky village,‎ where I tasted laolao.‎ In the evening,‎ I was happy to‎ arrive‎ in Luang‎ Prabang‎ to continue‎ my Thailand‎ Laos itinerary 14 days.

4. Days 9–11: From Pakbeng to Nong Khiaw

After the‎ Mekong boat‎ trip, I‎ continued my‎ 2 week trip to‎ Thailand and‎ Laos toward‎ Nong Khiaw. I left‎ Luang Prabang‎ in a shared‎ van, arranged‎ by my hotel.‎ The ride took‎ about five‎ hours with a few‎ stops. The‎ scenery‎ along the way‎ was very‎ pretty. When‎ I arrived, I‎ took a‎ small songthaew to my‎ hotel.
Peaceful Nong Khiaw is a hidden gem on any Thailand Laos 2 week itinerary adventure
I stayed‎ two‎‎ nights at Viewpoint‎ Resort. The hotel‎‎ sits on a‎ hill, so it’s‎ a‎ bit of a‎ climb,‎ but‎ the view of‎‎ the‎ Nam‎ Ou‎ River‎ and the‎ mountains was‎‎ amazing.‎ My‎ room was‎ clean,‎ with a‎ balcony and a‎ comfy bed. I had‎ dinner‎ at the‎ hotel restaurant‎ both nights,‎ because I was‎ tired‎ after hiking.
Stunning view from Pha Daeng Peak during our Thailand Laos 2 week itinerary adventure through nature
The‎ next morning,‎ I‎ hiked up to‎ Pha Daeng Peak.‎ The climb was‎ tough with‎ the heat,‎ but the view‎ from the‎ top was worth it.‎ In the afternoon,‎ I explored‎ Pha Kuang Cave,‎ which wa‎s‎ used during‎ the war. I also saw‎ children playing‎ by the river.

This part of‎ my Thailand and‎ Laos in 2 weeks journey‎ was one of my‎ favorites. I‎ really recommend‎ adding Nong‎ Khiaw to your‎ Thailand Laos‎ combined‎ itinerary if‎ you're looking‎ for nature‎ and peaceful‎ vibes.

5. Days 12–14: From Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang

During‎ our Thailand‎ Laos itinerary 14 days, we‎ spent the final‎ days in Luang‎ Prabang. On‎ day 12, we left‎ Nong Khiaw by‎ minibus. The‎ ride took‎ about four‎ hours. I booked‎ our seats‎ the night before‎ at a‎ small tour‎ agency on‎ the main‎ street. They‎ picked us‎ up directly‎ from our guesthouse.‎ When we‎ arrived at‎ the‎ north bus‎ station in Luang‎ Prabang,‎ we took a‎ shared songthaew‎ to reach our‎ hotel.
Luang Prabang is a must visit on any Thailand Laos 2 week itinerary full of culture
We stayed‎ at the Mekong‎ Riverview Hotel.‎ Our room was‎ spacious and‎ overlooked the river. In the morning, we‎ had breakfast on‎ the terrace‎ with a view of the Nam‎ Khan River. I really liked this peaceful‎ place to end our‎ Thailand Laos 2 week‎ itinerary.

The next day, I visited the Royal Palace and Wat Xiengthong. In the afternoon, I climbed Mount Phousi for a panoramic view of the town. On our final day, we went to Kuang Si Waterfall. The water was clear and blue. That evening, we had dinner at Tamarind Restaurant. I chose the Lao tasting menu to try different local dishes. It was a great way to wrap up our 2 week trip to Thailand and Laos.

On our last morning in Luang Prabang, I had an iced coffee at Saffron Coffee, right by the river. Then, we strolled through the market to buy a few souvenirs. I picked out some local spices and a small silk scarf. After that, we packed up and took a tuk-tuk to the airport. Our return flight was in the early afternoon.
