2-Day Agricultural Tour In Thailand - Review By Mrs Claire

2-day agricultural tour In Thailand

What do you know about Thailand? The Land of Smiles, with its golden temples, paradise beaches and colorful festivals. So, have you ever heard of an agricultural tour in Thailand? I believe it may still be quite new to you. Here it is! In simple terms, it is another way to discover Thailand differently at a slower pace, closer to real life. Between unspoiled nature, human connections, and peaceful moments, this farm tour stood out as a deeply authentic escape, marked by lasting emotions. Well, I had the chance to experience a 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand. Far from the tourist crowds, it was a simple and sincere immersion in rural life, the most memorable experience of my 15 days in Thailand. This Thailand farm tour 2 days allowed me to better understand the close bond between local people, the land, and the animals, by sharing their daily life.

I. Why choose an agricultural tour in Thailand?

Why choose an agricultural tour during your trip to Thailand? This choice immerses you deeply in local life, offering a close look at the careful process behind every grain of rice, the attention devoted to raising animals and the respect shown for the natural rhythm of the seasons. These experiences may be simple and sometimes discreet, yet they are sincere and meaningful, gradually creating a genuine and lasting connection with Thai culture.

Choosing a farm tour in Thailand means stepping away from the beaten path to explore another side of the country, more intimate and more human. Is it worth it? For me, absolutely!

Why choose an agricultural tour in Thailand?

During my trip to Thailand, I spent 2 days at Thung Dong Farm, located about one hour north of Chiang Mai. Wide open spaces, friendly animals, and above all the warm welcome from the farm owner made my 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand truly unforgettable. I had read many positive reviews before coming, but the reality exceeded my expectations.

Worth highlighting: During my Thailand farm stay, I also met a family with two children spending their holidays here, and believe me, Thung Dong Farmstay is suitable for all types of travel, including family trips. The children had a wonderful time there.

II. Itinerary 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand - What to do?

My 2-day Thailand farm tour took place in Chiang Mai, a region that is ideal for discovering another side of the country through an immersion in rural life. I invite you to relive with me the unforgettable experiences of these 2 days in Chiang Mai, rich in discoveries.

Before the start of the 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand, the owner of Thung Dong Farm, Mr. Ae, gave us many instructions to ensure the best possible experience: the overnight train, the transfer from the train station, and he sent us regular messages to make sure everything was going smoothly. As a result, I didn’t feel like a simple visitor, but rather like someone warmly welcomed, a family member returning home.

Thung Dong Farm in Chiang Mai

Day 1: Farm discovery and agricultural experience

Highlights of Day 1:

  • Caring for the farm animals
  • Exploring the plantations and Thung Dong Arabica coffee
  • Mini canoeing and cycling through the heart of the farm
  • Bathing the dog in the river
  • Campfire, Thai lanterns, and a local dinner at the farm

Once I settled in, all the fatigue seemed to fade away. I rested in an old Thai teak house, elegant, bright, and full of charm. The large open veranda overlooks the mountains and lush vegetation. The atmosphere is so calm that you immediately feel time moving more slowly here. The meal served at the farm is just as simple, healthy, and typical of northern Thailand, perfect for starting this Thailand farm stay.

I began my exploration of the farm with a conversation with Ae about the philosophy of Thung Dong. The entire organization of the place is designed around animals and their well-being. No animal is raised for slaughter. They move freely and live according to their nature. The meat and fish consumed at the farm come from reliable sources. This respectful approach makes this Thailand farm tour 2 days a deeply human experience.

Feeding the animals

The farm grows many crops, both to support its daily operations and to prepare meals for visitors. There is also the Thung Dong Arabica coffee plantation, organic vegetables, and healthy drinks. All of this helped me better understand traditional agricultural life in Thailand, where humans remain closely connected to the land and nature.

What to do during my 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand? While walking around the farm, I fed the geese, chickens, guinea fowl, as well as the dogs and cats. Sam the cat, the two dogs Daisy and Lucy, the calm water buffaloes, and the noisy flock of geese brought constant energy to the place. The buffaloes grazed peacefully, the chickens searched for worms, and the cats slept in the sun as if in deep meditation. Ah! I must also mention Natalie, a gentle deer during my 2-day Thailand farm tour. Observing this harmony, I too slowed down, adopting the peaceful rhythm of the farm.

Riding a mini-canoe

The mini-canoe experience inside the farm is among the best things to do in Chiang Mai during my farm trip at Thung Dong.

In the afternoon, I took a bicycle to ride around the farm. With a camera in hand, I captured moments of serenity that still move me today. At the end of the day, I bathed Daisy the dog in the river, one of my favorite activities of this agricultural tour in Thailand. Following Ae’s instructions, I walked to the small stream crossing the farm, dipped my feet in the cool water, and washed Daisy, a moment that was both playful and intimate.

At sunset, Ae took me in his truck to collect firewood in the village, preparing for the evening campfire. Around 6 PM, a warm fire was lit. Sitting around the flames, I roasted marshmallows, surrounded by water buffaloes resting calmly nearby. And above all, do not miss decorating Thai lanterns, making a wish and letting them fly into the night, a powerful memory of this 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand.

Dinner is served in a cozy wooden house, with dishes typical of northern Thailand. Back in my room, lying on the bed, I listened to the sounds of the forest and the surrounding mountains, almost in total communion with nature. The first day of my stay on a farm with animals ends gently, deeply, and full of emotion.

Day 2: Hiking, coffee plantations, and local traditions

Highlights of Day 2:

  • Coffee break at Take A Walk
  • Mountain hike to the waterfalls
  • Discovering the coffee plantations
  • Water buffalo ride
  • Making and releasing krathongs

The second day of this 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand began gently, paced by the familiar crowing of roosters. In the morning, I fed the animals, a simple yet joyful experience that gives full meaning to this 2-day Thailand farm tour. After breakfast, I stopped at Take A Walk café, located not far away. The peaceful, green setting, combined with delicious drinks, offered a perfect start to the day.

Stopping at the Take A Walk cafe

Continuing my Thailand farm tour 2 days, I went on a hike of about five hours through mountains and forest trails leading to beautiful waterfalls. My guide had prepared all the necessary equipment, a packed lunch, and water, ensuring that every moment of my farm stay in Thailand took place safely and in the best possible conditions.

Going for walks

In the afternoon, Ae took me on a short walk to the coffee plantations located on the hill just behind my accommodation. Observing the lush coffee trees and the surrounding forest up close made me appreciate even more the coffee I enjoy every day at the farm. For me, simply staying on site is already enough to make my farm tour rich and complete.

At the end of the day, Ae introduced me to another memorable activity, a water buffalo ride, an unforgettable memory from this farm holiday with animals. On the final evening, he guided me through the making of krathongs, a traditional Thai ritual, before letting them float on the pond, illuminated by candles, a gentle and moving conclusion to this agricultural tour in Thailand.

Making kathrongs

During my stay on a farm with animals, spent in the heart of the mountains and trees at Thung Dong Farm, was not just a journey of discovery, but a true gift. I leave with the feeling of having deeply reconnected with nature, animals, and local people, a connection that has become rare in the fast pace of urban life.

III. Practical tips for your farm stay in Thailand

1. What to eat in Chiang Mai?

Regarding the cuisine at Thung Dong Farm, three tasty and healthy meals are prepared daily for guests. A meal usually consists of two to three main dishes, served with soup, rice, and tropical fruits, in a private outdoor Sala area designed for relaxation. The ingredients are always fresh, and natural flavors are present in every dish.

The varied menu offers vegetarian, Thai, and Western options, with great flexibility depending on visitors’ needs. From main dishes to snacks such as chocolate chip cookies, bananas, mangoes, watermelon, or fresh vegetables, every detail is carefully considered.

2. When to visit Chiang Mai?

When to visit Chiang Mai? To fully enjoy a Thailand farm stay, the best period is from November to February. The climate is cool and dry, ideal for outdoor agricultural activities and interactions with local people, without the intense heat. The landscapes remain green after the rainy season, offering an authentic and peaceful setting.

When to visit Chiang Mai?

Other option: The rainy season, from June to October, which brings more humidity but also lush nature, appreciated by travelers seeking tranquility. I did my 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand in November, and the conditions were particularly pleasant. I recommend avoiding travel to Chiang Mai during the hot season, from March to May, as the heat becomes more intense and outdoor activities are more limited.

Even if the comfort is not that of a hotel or a resort, everything is harmonious and sufficient in its own way, offering the opportunity to experience a simple and serene lifestyle. This Thailand farm stay is neither luxurious nor rushed, but authentic and meaningful. This is how I chose to conclude my Thailand farm tour 2 days , moving away from lively beaches and noisy cities to better listen. And if you are looking for a different, peaceful, and memorable experience, then a farm stay at Thung Dong Farm is truly worth experiencing.

My 2-day agricultural tour in Thailand passed calmly, yet left a deep impression. Surrounded by mountains, greenery, and peaceful animals, I rediscovered a precious connection with nature and with others, something rare in urban daily life. I am sincerely grateful to AUTOUR ASIA, a travel agency in Thailand, for suggesting this unique experience, which allowed me to fully enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and truly slow down.
